Announcing our new Fiscally Sponsored Status
Viz For Social Good are excited to announce our partnership with FJC - allowing us to advance our charitable mission. We’re delighted at this development which will really allow us to develop and thrive in our mission to help non-profit organisations to see and understand their data.
But what does this mean, and how does it affect Viz For Social Good? We had a number of questions to try and explain our new status, and asked our Strategy Director, Mindy Friedman, who has been tirelessly responsible in securing the relationship on our behalf.
What is Fiscal Sponsorship?
An existing non-profit can offer its charitable and tax-exempt status to another organization. FJC has experience hosting these partnerships and has brought VFSG under its umbrella of non-profit status so that we can fundraise through tax deductible donations, apply for grants, and continue to sustain our mission.
How did the partnership with FJC come about?
We worked with the wonderful Pro Bono Clearinghouse at New York Lawyers for the Public Interest (NYLPI). One of their specialties is helping mission-driven organizations like ours achieve fiscal sponsorship and nonprofit status. NYLPI also connected us with the expert attorneys at Stroock, who generously helped us finalize our partnership with FJC.
What does this mean for VFSG?
This means VFSG is now formally able to fundraise so we can continue to grow our amazing international community of volunteers and help nonprofits around the the world continue to better understand and visualize their impact data.
What are you excited for in the future?
I'm excited to see VFSG pave a path of sustainability so that we can continue to be a partner and resource for passionate data viz volunteers and impactful charities.
On behalf of the VFSG Board, I’d like to extend our huge thanks to Mindy for her hard work and dedication in helping us secure the next stage in our journey and making sure that it was the right match for us, aligning with our values.
